Welcome to the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science!

We design mathematical tools in the fields of algebra, analysis, graph theory, numerics, optimisation, and probability theory as well as new methods in computer science. We apply these fundamental findings in the design of algorithms, in material sciences, while designing models of technical and scientific processes for faster and more accurate simulations, and we provide multimedia visualization, for example in our CAVE. We are researching robots to support people in difficult environments.

Our mathematicians and computer scientists work closely with colleagues from other faculties in numerous practice-relevant fields in engineering, natural and geosciences.

In teaching, the individual support and encouragement of our students is particularly important to us. This leads to above-average performance from our students and a comparatively low drop-out rate in our study programmes. For example, around 3.5% of our students receive a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship (national average 1%).
