Since its foundation in 1765, the Bergakademie has had premises to house its models, equipment, samples and instruments used in research and teaching.
Over the last 250 years, a large number of new technical collections have been added. Today, they comprise more than one million scientific samples, 15,000 scientific instruments and models as well as around 1,000 works of art and cultural-historical objects.

Custody
The "Regulations for the Collections of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg" of 4 June 2014 issued binding guidelines for the protection and responsibility of the scientific collections of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. The university's custodian is responsible for overseeing the scientific and technical-historically significant collections and the art holdings.
The collection objects are regularly shown as loans in museum exhibitions in Germany and abroad.
