What is LaTeX?
LaTeX ['la:τεχ] is a software package that simplifies the use of the typesetting programme TeX with the help of macros. LaTeX is currently available in version 2ε.
The TeX programme was developed by Donald E. Knuth, a professor at Stanford University. In the early 1980s, Leslie Lamport developed LaTeX, a very powerful collection of TeX macros. The name means Lamport TeX. Today, LaTeX is probably the most popular method of using TeX.
