General information

Access to eduroam is only possible with an app password.

An app password is a long, randomly generated security code. It offers additional protection because it is only valid for one application at a time and is specific to one device.

Step 1: Create app password

Log in to with your new password. Click on the eduroam tile.

Create an app password for eduroam. For better allocation, you can enter a meaningful comment as a description.

Note: This randomly generated password is only displayed once. You can copy this directly to the clipboard.

Step 2: Download the geteduroam app and configure eduroam

Download the latest version of via the distribution's package manager or obtain the latest version from the .

Open the geteduroam application via the corresponding application launcher of your distribution or via shell (geteduroam-gui).

In the login window, enter your central login with the realm @tu-freiberg de as the user name (e.g. ab12defg [at] tu-freiberg [dot] de).

Enter or copy the app password you just generated in step 1.

The configuration is now complete. As soon as the eduroam network is within range, the connection is established.

Troubleshooting

When establishing a connection via the Network Manager, no connection is established despite an existing profile / The configuration dialogue opens when trying to connect

Open the newly created connection "eduroam (from geteduroam)".

Save it again directly without making any changes.

The connection should now be established.

My previously used eduroam configuration is still used instead of the newly configured one

The geteduroam application installs the WLAN profile in the Network Manager under the name "eduroam (from geteduroam)".

If you have already stored an eduroam configuration under a different name (e.g. only "eduroam"), you must remove it manually in order to use the new CA.

The application only updates configurations under the name "eduroam (from geteduroam)".
